A little about Hagumi....
In the story of Hachikuro, the main characters all attend an art colleget in Japan. Hanamoto Hagumi is first introduced to the main guys (Takemoto, Morita and Mayama) in the story by their professor, Hanamoto Shuji (she calls him Shuu-chan), as his eighteen year old cousin (she's actually his cousin's daughter). Hagu-chan may be eighteen, but she actually looks much younger as she is very small and child-like in appearance.
Takemoto falls for her at first sight, although he doesn't share his feelings with her (or even completely realize them himself). Morita also seems to be drawn to Hagu, however he takes a different approach with her. He first calls her a Korobokkuru which is a character in an old Ainu myth who is small enough to stand under Fuki leaves (I guess they are similar to leprechauns). Morita takes pictures of her under a leaf, on a mushroom, and he even makes a plaster mold of her little foot next to a cigarette and a pack to demonstrate her tiny size.
She may be small in stature, but Hagu makes up for it in talent. She is a very talented artist who has been scouted out since high school, and her art is on display at various locations. When Takemoto and Mayama first see her working on a project they are quite surprised, as she was sculpting a huge manly statue, almost twice as big as herself. Most all who see her work say that they'd love to see the world through her eyes.
